The client has a large family and wanted to create an environment where young children could be part of the living area, seen and heard but separate from the main living areas and entertaining rooms. The result was a large family room that could be shut off (including all the toys) with a couple of large sliding doors. The family does a lot of entertaining so an alfresco kitchen with indoor/outdoor flow became central to the design solution. There was a requirement for a home office that was easily accessible to the front entry, large formal and informal living rooms with a separate dining room. A media room needed to be separate to the main living rooms so it could be a place to relax and unwind. The kids needed to be supervised while using the computer so a nook was created with high visual amenity. The main bedroom wing allows all the kids access to Mum and Dad while still providing them with a place of refuge. A guest room was required that was separate and private from the main core of the house. It had to be largely self contained.
